Our society relies on the distribution of millions of gallons of water to hundreds of thousands, and even millions, of customers quickly and seamlessly. This great convenience is also is potential cause for concern. If the water quality is compromised this water can reach all these people in a matter of minutes or a few hours.

There may be times when we cannot rely on the purity of the water from the tap. For such eventualities the Federal Government recommends families have a supply of water on-hand.

The most likely situations where our water supplies can be compromised include:

1. Serious water contamination resulting from a natural disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane.
2. Bio-terrorism of the water caused deliberately with the intent to injure or kill many people or a specific targetted group of people.
